** Dave Christie experienced a massive hatch of MAYFLIES at 8:15 Sunday evening near Germantown Marsh, seeing tens of thousands of them backlit by the sun as they rose high into the air above the marshes and fields along the Shepody River.  He returned with an insect net on Monday and could not locate a single one.   The Mayfly develops under water and emerges as an adult to create these massive mating hatches and live only a short period, lay eggs, and repeat the cycle.  They are excellent fodder for other wildlife and totally harmless to people and mammals.

** Gabriel Gallant and  Tania Carrier visited the Fort Beausejour area on the weekend.  They spotted a RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD [Colibri à gorge rubis] nectaring on Dandelion and got a photo of the elusive Sore at the Sackville Waterfowl Park.

** Gabriel checked on a Beaver Dam near his Ste-Marie-de-Kent home to find hundreds of 6 SPOTTED TIGER BEETLES on the road leading to the dam, as well as a SOLITARY SANDPIPER [Chevalier solitaire], a pair of EASTERN KINGBIRD [Tyran tritri],  and the Butterflies NORTHERN SPRING AZURE [Azur printanier],  RED ADMIRAL [Vulcain], MOURNING CLOAK [Morio].

** Clarence Cormier reports he is starting to see more and more BOBOLINKS [Goglu des prés] that successfully nest in a field aside his home.  He also is noting a wave of YELLOW WARBLERS [Paruline jaune], more AMERICAN REDSTART [Paruline flamboyante], a MAGNOLIA WARBLER [Paruline à tote cendrée], as well as a pair of GRAY CATBIRDS [Moqueur chat]

** Lynda Leclerc placed a Nature Moncton swallow box on the Humphrey Brook trail and she spotted a potential patron to it on Saturday morning.  Lynda also spotted a pair of EASTERN BLUEBIRDS [Merlebleu de l’Est] on someone’s deck in Grove Hamlet sub-division.   Around the lake she saw a WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW [Bruant à couronne blanche], GRAY CATBIRD [Moqueur chat],  YELLOW WARBLER [Paruline jaune],  plus MALLARD [Canard colvert] ducks.  The Humphrey Brook trail is becoming more popular and definitely one for more folks to make visits to so close to the city.

**  Gordon Rattray got a photo of an EASTERN KINGBIRD [Tyran tritri], a species getting reported much more recently that visited his Albert Mines home.  He also got a photo of a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER [Paruline à croup ion jaune] gathering nesting material.

** Audrey Goguen comments she has had 2 male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS [Cardinal à poi trine rose] arrive to her Northview  Street yard in Moncton, noting more extensive and delineated red on one than the other.  This is a scenario that seems to happen with some regularity, where an adult male will have a first year male accompanying it.

** Brian Stone has many photos that he’s getting in Perth, Ontario, many of which are NB residents as well, some not.  He is getting dragonflies now on the wing, Eastern Comma Butterfly, Dreamy Dusky Wing Butterfly, and Painted Turtle.  He also got Juvenal butterfly that I don’t believe has been recorded in NB as yet, but is present in some areas of NS.  He is seeing lots of Bobolinks and got a documentary photo of the less seen female Bobolink, Blister Beetle, male Baltimore Oriole, Black-Billed Cuckoo, and lots more.

** Aldo Dorio photographed an INDIGO BUNTING [Passerin indigo] alongside an AMERICAN GOLDFINCH [Chardonneret jaune] on Monday at Pointe-a-Tom near Tracadie.  He also got a GRAY CATBIRD [Moqueur chat], a fresh looking MOURNING CLOAK [Morio] Butterfly, and a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT [Paruline masquée] Warbler.

** Lois Budd is enjoying some of the pleasant spring flowers in her yard including TROUT LILY, WOOD ANENOME and VIOLETS.
