** Jamie and Karen Burris made a visit to the Tucker St, in
Riverview, Lavoie Ducks Unlimited impoundment on May 25. They found lots to
see: including 5 CANADA GEESE [Bernaches
du Canada] families with goslings, AMERICAN WIGEON
[Canard d’Amérique], LEAST
SANDPIPER [Bécasseau minuscule], lots of RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRDS [Carouge à épaulettes], hundreds of swallows included TREE SWALLOWS [Hirondelle bicolore],
BANK SWALLOWS [Hirondelle de
rivage], and BARN SWALLOWS [Hirondelle
rustique]. They also saw a COMMON TERN [Sterne
pierregarin] diving for fish in the pond. They came across what they
suspected to be Pheasant eggs which appeared eaten by a predator. Jamie
got some striking photos especially flight shots of some of the observed birds;
take a close note of the female Red-Winged Blackbird, a bird often causing
confusion in their variability.
** Phyllis MacMillan has
a BLUE JAY [Geai bleu] pair that
chose their nesting site in an area where 2 wires meet her Riverview home.
Phyllis got a photo of the adults on the nest assumedly incubating eggs on
Monday. Blue Jays usually nest in trees, on a house would not be the
normal.
