** Dale Gaskin reports that a pair of EASTERN BLUEBIRDS [Merlebleu de l'Est] were carrying food to a nest box near His Dawson Settlement home on Sunday, as were a pair of TREE SWALLOWS [Hirondelle bicolore] to another box. Nearby, fledged AMERICAN ROBINS [Merle d'Amérique] were moving about in his driveway, appearing to be still grounded and not flying.

Dale mentioned the Bluebirds coming to dried meal worms last week. They are still coming to that food source, and AMERICAN GOLDFINCH [Chardonneret jaune] and PURPLE FINCH [Roselin pourpré] have also started coming to the meal worms. EUROPEAN STARLINGS [Étourneau sansonnet] have also found the booty, which Dale is not amused about! Dale has his usual large number of RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS [Colibri à gorge rubis] and still has a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER [Pic maculé] coming to fruit.

** The Moncton area experienced some very high winds on Friday, and some greenery took a beating. Mac Wilmot has no TAMARACK [Mélèze] trees on his Lower Coverdale property. However, a Tamarack branch ended up in his yard with the female cones just emerged, looking like small rose buds opening. The male pollen-producing flowers are different in appearance.

** SPOTTED SANDPIPERS [Chevalier grivelé] have nicely settled in for the summer. No doubt, housekeeping is under way. Aldo Dorio photographed one at Hay Island, to remind us again of this sandpiper that chooses to nest in New Brunswick.

** A spider was found on the ceiling of our cabin at the Festival of Nature in early June. Brian Stone got a photo of it. Bugguide identified it as a RUNNING CRAB SPIDER [araignée de la famille Philodromidae], of which there are several species.
