**Louise and Maurice Richard watched a MERLIN [Faucon émerillon] on the chase for one of several BLUE JAYS [Geai bleu] in front of their home facing Jones Lake on Thursday evening. They wondered if it may not be a young of the year bird, as it seemed clumsy in its attack attempts, very untypical of the bullet-speed Merlin.

**It’s been surprising the number of reports of the BEDSTRAW HAWK-MOTH, a.k.a. GALLIUM SPHINX MOTH [Sphinx du gaillet], reported this month. Jeannine Ward got some documentary photos of one on August 12th nectaring on McLaughlin Drive in Moncton. I suspect we can look forward to seeing lots of caterpillars of this species over the next few months. Jeannine also got photos of a GREAT SPANGLED FRITILLARY BUTTERFLY [Argynne cybèle] on a visit to Whale Cove, Grand Manan on July 31st.

**Brian Stone forwards a few of his last photos from his Perth, Ontario visit. The GIANT SWALLOWTAIL BUTTERFLY [Grand porte-queue] continues to follow him about. I’m including a RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD [Colibri à gorge rubis] female or young of the year, as it will not be long before they will be leaving us. Brian found his second cooperative GRAY TREEFROG [Rainette versicolore]. He comments this one was much smaller than the first one that he found.
