**Marguerite
Winsor found two BLACK SWALLOWTAIL BUTTERFLY caterpillars [chenille du papillon du céleri] from her Salisbury DILL [Aneth]
patch. They’ve went into that J-formation and one went into the
chrysalis stage on September 4th, and the other on September 5th. This would be
a second brood, which will overwinter as such, to emerge as adults next spring
to continue their mission. They’ll be kept in cool conditions for the winter
and released safely, as they will emerge in the spring away from potential
parasites over the winter.
**Krista Doyle shares a few sunrise photos from her Lewis
Mountain home. What spectacular sunrise and sunset shows are out there this
time of year to appreciate.
**Aldo Dorio got some interesting time of the year photos, to
include a DARK-EYED JUNCO [Junco ardoisé] and one of her young of the year
fledged young. These youngsters could be very puzzling to I.D. if
not with their parents. Two more photos are of Warblers: a BLACKPOLL WARBLER
[Paruline rayée], one of the Warblers that does make a big change as it goes
into basic plumage at the moment; and a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT WARBLER [Paruline
masquée]. All thanks to Gilles Belliveau for reviewing these, as I’m on limited
internet at Keji Park in Nova Scotia with
Brian Stone. There will be lots of great photos to go out next week!
