** The rain and wind may be wild out there today but aren't you glad its just not snow!
**Louise Nichols had a male HOUSE FINCH [Roselin familier] and a male PURPLE FINCH [Roselin pourpré] co-operate for a comparative photo at the same feeder in her Sackville yard. Note the dark breast streaking, brown crown, near square tail tip, white wing bars and more reddish tone of the HOUSE FINCH [Roselin familier]. The wing bars are reddish in the PURPLE FINCH [Roselin pourpré] finch, chest is blotchy -not dark streaked and the tail would be notched if it was visible. The female of the species is another story again for another photo-op.
**The Winterberry Holly crop is being enjoyed by more than the BOHEMIAN WAXWING [Jaseur boréal] at Hay island. Aldo Dorio watched a RED SQUIRREL [Ecureuil roux)enjoying the same fare.
**Brian Stone has a series of unlabeled photos he took on the Caledonia Gorge field trip. If anyone would like to see any more, they will be on Brians dropbox for a few weeks at the attached link.

**Brian visited Mapleton Park on Tuesday to note Wooly Alder Aphids and a SONG SPARROW [Bruant chanteur]that would appear to have Red Ossier Dogwood as a backdrop. The RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH [Sittelle à poitrine rousse]are as curious and bold as ever.
**I did a stake-out at Doreen Rossiter’s late Tuesday afternoon in hopes of an audience with the assumed first fall male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK [Cardinal à poitrine rose] a plumage which I have never seen and also rule out the possibility of a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK [Cardinal à tête noire]. Doreen did not see it in the morning and was away until mid afternoon. However, it did return to the same feeder approximately 20 minutes after I left, but the WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS [Bruant à couronne blanche] surely were  intersting to watch in Doreen’s yard. Many folks seem to be reporting this species this year so assumetly they had a good year. Doreen has both the adult and immature birds as patrons. She either has several or three very busy ones. Some co-operated for photo-ops. The photos show the sharp black and white stripe crown of the adult and the tan and brownish head stripe of the immature. I also saw my first RED-THROATED LOON [Plongeon catmarin] of the year near Cape Enrage, but very briefly with a distant photo.
