** A nice start to the fall potential rarities weekend for rarities. Brian and Valerie Bauld spotted a
FORK-TAILED FLYCATCHER [Tyran des savanes] flycatching from posts along Route
915 between Harvey and Riverside-Albert on Saturday. It was noted at 5 p.m.,
near civic number 234. This bird is likely to be located in the area over the
next few days. Both Brian Bauld and Dave Christie got photos of the bird that
are attached today. If spotted, it will be quickly recognized.
** Louise and Maurice Richard had a pair of friendly CANADA JAYS
[Mésangeai du Canada] join them at their Acadieville camp on Saturday, always a
pleasant experience to get a yard visit from Canada’s national bird.
** Nice to hear of a second Canada Jay encounter on Saturday. Dave and Anita
Cannon were walking in the Mill Creek Nature Park and came across a Canada Jay
hopping along the trail towards them. They stepped aside to take a photo and,
seemingly unconcerned, it hopped along past them and flew off on its day.
** Jim Johnson in Scotch Settlement reports seeing 3 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS [Merlebleu
de l’Est] in his yard on Saturday morning. Jim had several swallow boxes that
were occupied this summer, but no bluebird tenants. It would appear that this
trio were staking out potential real estate for next year. This behavior seems
to happen during bluebird dispersal, each fall at this time.
