Clarence
Cormier reports two
**Doreen
Rossiter had a very lively day at her Alma feeder yard with Friday’s
storm. She now has a female NORTHERN
CARDINAL [Cardinal rouge], which
she now suspects has actually been around for a few days, as husband
Willis thought he had got a glimpse of a female Cardinal a few days
ago. From FOX SPARROW
[Bruant fauve] reports it almost seems like a second wave is going
through. Doreen comments that she has several, along with
WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS
[Bruant à gorge blanche], SONG
SPARROWS [Bruant chanteur], AMERICAN
TREE SPARROWS
[Bruant hudsonien], and
DARK-EYED JUNCOS
[Junco ardoisé]. A flock of 19 COMMON GRACKLES [Quiscale
bronzé] arrived on Friday, with one RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRD [Carouge à epaulettes] tagging along. With all the other
regulars, the yard was very lively.
**A
side story to share on Doreen’s female Cardinal: My first Cardinal
in New Brunswick was approximately 40 years ago. Doreen Rossiter
reported a female had arrived to
her yard. I recall Ron Pellerin and I waiting quietly in a vehicle
for five hours for it to put in an
appearance.
After a long wait, it came by, touched down on a wire, and off again.
The two-second view was our first New Brunswick cardinal,
and allowed us to give high-fives and leave content.
