** Brian Stone found the feeder yard where he is staying at Upham this week to be very active. Their first ever NORTHERN CARDINAL [Cardinal rouge], a female, continues to be a regular. A lone COMMON REDPOLL [Sizerin flammé] also dropped by as well as the EVENING GROSBEAKS [Gros-bec errant].

A flock of EVENING GROSBEAKS also enjoyed the hospitality of Jane LeBlanc in St. Martins in the snow.

** Things have also returned to full life at our own Moncton feeder yard with the AMERICAN GOLDFINCH [Chardonneret jaune] and PINE SISKINS [Tarin des pins] making it look like a beehive. The male RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER [Pic à ventre roux] came several times along with the expected regulars including two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS [Bruant à gorge blanche], two SONG SPARROWS [Bruant chanteur] and several AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS [Bruant hudsonien]. A second day of wild food being covered up should result in lots of patrons appreciating stocked feeder yards and lots of opportunities for photos as well as tracks and trails in the fresh snow.

** It is a month away, but it is not too soon to think about preparing a short presentation for Nature Moncton’s Member’s night in January. This can be as short as you wish or even up to half an hour to share some project or trip taken or any subject on nature that you are able to share with the group. As an example I am planning to give a short presentation on what I have learned and experienced placing Mason Bee houses. We are a diverse group with many different interests and lots to share. This is a great venue in which to do that.

** The Nature Moncton activities committee is starting to get several activities lined up for the winter ahead now that the Christmas Bird Count is done. This will soon all be laid out on the website with speakers now lined up until May. A Birdfeeder Tour is lined up for January, a Gull Workshop and outing and a Sea Duck workshop and outing to list just a few with members suggestions and ideas always appreciated.
