** Roger LeBlanc leaves comments on BEAVER
[castor] avoiding incidents with large trees that they fell in their lumberjack
efforts, noting on most occasions they get it right, by even dropping the very
largest tree right where they want them to. However, Roger recalls doing a
documentary on the large number of beavers at Kouchibouguac National Park. He
was told of one report where a beaver fell a tree to unfortunately leave its
large tail in the wrong spot and got it pinned by a tree. The beaver could not
escape and ended up with a slow death from starvation, an unusal occurence.
** Brian
Stone visited Mapleton Park on Christmas Day to find the ducks gathering there
now. He saw one male WOOD DUCK [Canard branchu] in full breeding plumage near
the bridge over Hall's Creek at the Gorge Road entrance. There was also one
male Mallard-Black Duck Hybrid and the remainder being MALLARD DUCKS [Canard
colvert]. Brian got photos from different angles to show plumage.
Judy Marsh comments the moon and the stars the last few nights have
certainly been spectacular, right from sunset to sunrise.
