** Doreen Rossiter was very pleased to have a male SUMMER TANAGER arrive in her Alma feeder yard on Saturday, to join finches feeding at a window feeder. Doreen comments, “What a beautiful bird!”

** Elaine Gallant spotted a SNOWY EGRET [Aigrette neigeuse] feeding at Point-du-Chêne Road just past the bridge on the right-hand side and before coming to the wharf. She saw it on Saturday evening with a group of GREAT BLUE HERONS [Grand Héron].

** Yolande LeBlanc was surprised on Friday to have 6 BOBOLINKS [Goglu des prés] in her Memramcook feeder yard. Imagine how surprised she was on Saturday to have 35. Yes, 35 Bobolinks, ground-feeding. Yolande comments that the beautiful cacophony of song freaked her out, to put it mildly.

** Catherine Hamilton got a few nice photos of a group of BLACK SCOTERS [Macreuse à bec jaune] of mixed gender, that sat down on one of the lagoons on the Petitcodiac Waterfowl Trail. They obviously stopped on fresh water for a rest on their migration north.

** Jane LeBlanc had her FOY WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW [Bruant à couronne blanche] in her St. Martins feeder yard on Saturday. She got an excellent photo of those fluorescent white head stripes. WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS [Bruant à gorge blanche] and SONG SPARROWS [Bruant chanteur] joined the lone White-crowned Sparrow.

Dave Christie’s FOY yard birds Saturday were 2 CHIPPING SPARROWS [Bruant familier] feeding on corn and millet and a male NORTHERN PARULA [Paruline à collier] checking the Forsythia flowers for insects. Most numerous were a substantial group of RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS [Carouge à épaulettes] that came several times during the day and consisted of from 12 to 35 females and 1 to 3 males. PURPLE FINCHES [Roselin pourpré] were close behind with 20 females and 12 males.
