** A short Information Line today. Rainy, cool days do that.

Gabriel Gallant leaves a few observations from around his Ste-Marie-de-Kent home. Gabriel has been hearing the trills of AMERICAN TOADS [Bufo americanus] for weeks, coming from his field or cow pastures, next to his property. On Saturday night, he decided to approach a flooded area of field where he suspected a few toads may have been calling. He eventually spotted two males with his flashlight, and they co-operated well so he could get a few excellent photos.

New bird arrivals in his yard recently included a male EASTERN BLUEBIRD [Merlebleu de l’Est], and a male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK [Cardinal à poitrine rose]. TREE SWALLOWS [Hirondelle bicolore] and BARN SWALLOWS [Hirondelle rustique] are carrying out their nesting plans. A few mail BOBOLINKS [Goglu des prés] are now calling from the tree line adjacent to his yard and a WILSON’S SNIPE [Bécassine de Wilson] can be heard winnowing from between his yard and a neighbour’s cow pasture.

** Aldo Dorio got a photo of a GADWALL [Canard chipeau] at Hay Island on Sunday. Note the signature orange edging to the bill of this species. He also photographed a MERLIN [Faucon émerillon] and a PINE SISKIN [Tarin des pins] with AMERICAN GOLDFINCH [Chardonneret jaune] for a nice comparison.

I neglected to include Brian Stone’s photos of a Wolf spider discussed in yesterday’s edition. They are added to the BlogSpot of yesterday as of now and again on today’s BlogSpot.
