A short edition
today as many naturalists are attending the Festival of Nature in St. Andrews.
**Jane LeBlanc captured some pleasing
photos of early-blooming plants around her St. Martins yard, including RHODORA
[Rhododendron du Canada] which sends out its purple-pink flowers before its
leaves, HOBBLEBUSH [Bois d'original] in bloom with its false petals blended
with its true flowers, and Serviceberry shrub [Amélanchier] with all its other
local names like Shadbush, Saskatoon Berry, Indian Pear, and more.
**Yvette Richard visited Dieppe Rotary
Park on Friday. She saw lots of activity, including a young WHITE-TAILED DEER
[Chevreuil] that followed her about for a time, male and female GREEN-WINGED
TEAL [Sarcelle d'hiver], CEDAR WAXWINGS [Jaseur d'Amérique], and lots of MALLARD [Canard colvert] ducklings playing chase and
chasing bugs around the third watering hole.
