** Frank Branch, Michel Roy and Simonne Ward were in the right
place at the right time to spot a CAROLINA WREN [Troglodyte de Caroline] at
Wilson Point on Miscou Island, a lifer for Miscou for all three. Jolande
St-Pierre advises that this is a new
bird for the Miscou list.
** Bob Blake maintains a daily list of morning temperatures,
daily high temperatures, and monthly rainfall at his Second North River home.
I’m attaching Bob’s record, comparing August 2018 and August 2019. It is not
complete for August as Bob was away from home several days, but it does give a
general impression. The table is attached below.

** Krista Doyle snapped a photo of a RACCOON [Raton laveur]
keeping close watch from a tree in its masked-bandit pelage.
** Brian Stone made a short visit to Mapleton Park on Saturday and
saw lots for his camera to tally. The WOOD DUCK [Canard branchu] is there
again. Brian is not sure how long it has been there because he has not visited
the park for three weeks.
A group of ANTS [fourmi] were attracted to the sweet strands
emulating from an ALDER WOOLY APHID nest. JEWELWEED, AKA TOUCH-ME-NOT [Impatiente
du Cap], seems to have taken over the park and to be in bloom everywhere. It no
doubt is a major attraction to hummingbirds. A GREEN FROG [Grenouille verte]
posed, nicely incognito. A female COMMON WHITETAIL [La lydienne] dragonfly and
MEADOWHAWK [Sympétrum spp.] dragonflies were flying about.
A nice photograph of a mushroom that appears to be the SICKENER
[Russule émetique], that should produce a white spore-print, which Brian is
preparing. Construction is in progress to make a new section to the entrance to
the trail, at the Gorge Road entrance. Also, BLACKBERRY [mûrier] plants were in
delicious fruit.
** It’s always pleasant to see “clouds with a silver lining,”
as appeared for me on Friday evening. Unfortunately, the photo
does not do it justice, in the awesome way that it appeared to the eye.
