The INDIGO
BUNTING [Passerin indigo] Jamie
Burris had arrive to his Riverview feeder yard on Dec. 23rd is still
a daily patron and looking very comfortable.
Jamie got updated photos on Jan. 1st.
Georges Brun captured a close-up photo
of the First Quarter Moon on New Year’s Day at 9:13 PM. It will progress to a
Full Moon on Jan. 10.
It surely is not a time of year to
expect salamanders travelling on the snow surface. George Foster in Ways Mills,
Quebec found a YELLOW-SPOTTED SALAMANDER making tiny tracks in the snow on
January 1st, quite a distance from the pond on his property. He brought it into
his greenhouse and hopes it will survive taking a photo to share.
** Bob Blake keeps daily weather stats
from his Second North River home to include morning temperature, daily highs and
precipitation. Bob’s table, attached
below, compares December 2018 to December 2019.
I was a bit surprised to note the similar stats for the two months with
the exception of rainfall which was almost 3 times more in December of 2019
than December of last year. However,
December 2018 did have more snow accumulation on the ground as snow that came
in November 2018 was still present.
