**On Sunday
morning, Peter and Deana Gadd had a second encounter with a juvenile LITTLE
BLUE HERON on Grand Manan Island. The first, when it was in the same tree on
the edge of Long Pond on the far side, near Anchorage Park. At first they
thought it to be a Snowy Egret but soon realized what it really was. They had a
great chance to catch it feeding alongside its cousin, a Great Blue Heron. A
special photo to compare the two showing size differential.
**Dan Hicks
got some excellent photos of a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK that came by his Elmwood
Drive yard and took an American Robin as prey. Dan got three photos to show
some of the markings of this raptor from different angles. The eyes are still
orange to indicate this bird is not fully adult as yet however, other markings
are consistent of an adult. The bands on the tail show the white bands wider
than the dark bands.
Dan also got
a photo of twin WHITE-TAILED DEER fawns that he sees regularly near his home.
As can be seen, they are nicely reaching teenage size at this point.
