** Yvette Richard got what may be the
most pleasant background in a photo to one of our juvenile LITTLE BLUE HERONS
[Aigrette bleue] at the Sackville Waterfowl Park on Wednesday. She also got it
intent on enjoying a frog. It is looking like our welcome visitors may not be
quite so welcome to the frog community! Yvette also got a great photo of a GREEN
HERON [Héron vert] that she found at the Saint-Edouard-de-Kent marsh on
Wednesday.
**We have been very lucky to get some
nice photos of juvenile YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS this season. They fool many
folk. Georges Brun got a photo of one that visited his small urban forest on
Churchill St. in Moncton, not an expected site to see this species.
** Fred Dube shares 2 more moth photos
that visited his home … the PALE BEAUTY MOTH and the FALSE CROCUS GEOMETER
MOTH. Both of these are mid-sized moths.
** Aldo Dorio got a photo of a BLUE-HEADED
VIREO [Viréo à tête bleue] on Wednesday. Note the clearly defined “spectacles”
and short, thick bill. He also photographed an adult male YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER
[Paruline à croupion jaune] to show the split white eye ring, black mask, and
sharp yellow patches as well as the distinct white throat.
** Brian Stone visited the Rue Niles
and Petit-Cap areas in Cap Pele on Wednesday and found lots of birds to
photograph to include OSPREY [Balbuzard pêcheur], BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS
[Pluvier argenté], many BONAPARTE'S GULLS [Mouette de Bonaparte], SEMIPALMATED
PLOVERS [Pluvier semipalmé], RUDDY TURNSTONES [Tournepierre à collier], WILLETS
[Chevalier semipalmé], WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS [Bécasseau à croupion blanc] and
large numbers of GREAT BLUE HERONS [Grand Héron]. Brian got some great photos
of all the activity that are attached. One photo shows the slight red base of
the lower mandible of the White-rumped Sandpiper that is a helpful clue in
their identification when it can be seen.
