** After Pam Watters helpful comments
on preventing bird window strikes; Jane Leblanc comments on a technique that
she has found helpful. She has had bird strikes over the years and what she
does now is at the window closest to the feeders she leaves the vertical blinds
spread across the window but open, not closed. This would look from a bird’s
eye view similar to one of the methods mentioned yesterday as they are about 2
inches apart. The best part is that she can put her long camera lens out
through the blinds and get photos without disturbing the birds. As a caution, windows
reflect what is behind and that is what the birds see so it is obviously
important that the potential barrier/warning is seen from the outside of the
window if the reflection is strong.
** The New Brunswick Environmental Network
has published a list of events and presentations happening in February. The one
on February 10th on bats may be of interest to many naturalists.
Left click on it to open the details and register for it which is also the case
for many of the other events listed. The list is attached below.
