** Elaine Gallant came across some RING-NECKED
PHEASANT [Faisan de Colchide] neck feathers by the Byron Dobson Arena in
Riverview on Friday. The Northern Goshawk and the Red Fox are possibly the most
likely predators of the Ring-necked Pheasants.
** Many naturalists often make
pilgrimages to Grand Manan Island to enjoy and absorb this beautiful piece of
New Brunswick. Susan Belfry sends a note on behalf of the Nature Trust of New Brunswick
to help in purchasing 860 acres making that part of Ross Island a Protected
Area for naturalists to visit more and to protect the wildlife habitat it
provides. I am attaching some of the information that Susan has forwarded to
share with interested folk.

Significant area / Grand

New
Brunswickers and visitors love the Bay of Fundy; the seaside hikes, the
ocean breeze, and the magic that is our coastal ecosystems. The Nature Trust of
New Brunswick are thrilled to share with you an incredibly exciting and limited
opportunity to protect 860 acres on Ross Island!
The
protection of Ross Island is a big opportunity for wildlife conservation in our
province.
Ross
Island lies
between Grand Manan Island and White Head Island and contains
everything we love about New Brunswick. From rugged coastlines to woodlands and
wetlands, Ross Island is home to many of the habitats we have made our mission
to protect.
To
protect Ross Island, the total cost of the project is $1,400,000.
To
date, with generous support from government partners, foundations,
corporations, and individual supporters, we have raised $1,270,000 towards
the Protect Ross Island campaign. A generous pledge by the MapleCross Fund,
supporting strategic land conservation across Canada, will match every dollar
donated. The remaining funds needed to protect this special place are $130,000.
With
your help, we will raise the remaining $130,000 needed to protect
Ross Island, and match MapleCross’ gift, by March 31st, 2021.
Nature
has been there for us as we adjusted to our new normal. Today, please consider
giving to the protection of this integral piece of New Brunswick. As part of
the Nature Trust’s Conserve Y(our) NB campaign, we ask for your help to
secure this special island.

** Clara Thaysen from the New Brunswick
Environmental Network reminds of webinars about Miscou Island given by Roland
Chiasson and Heather Loomer this coming week. I am attaching her notes below.
