**Lynda Leclerc’s back yard suddenly had an explosion of birds when the sun came out. Things had been quiet most of the week and suddenly Saturday morning a huge flock of American Robins came to the Mountain Ash in her neighbour’s yard with many overflowing into her Mountain Ash. Then a flock of American Goldfinch with a few Purple Finches arrived enjoying the seeds on her Ivory Silk Lilac Tree. One single European Starling had a few berries from her Mountain Ash. Meanwhile, Blue Jays and Black-capped Chickadees enjoyed the bird feeders and the Mourning Doves cleaned up the leftovers on the ground. Then suddenly they all took off. A very enjoyable scene on a sunny morning after a long dreary week.

**Saturday’s rough weather did not deter Aldo Dorio from checking out Hay Island. He was able to get documentary photos of approximately 40 recently arrived Long-tailed Ducks that were very actively diving for food. They appear to be of mixed gender and possibly some young-of-the-year birds.

**Brian Stone stayed home on Saturday but still managed to photograph a few birds in his back yard. A small DOWNY WOODPECKER landed on Brian's back yard shrub and then flew to the wooden seat on his back deck. From there it flew up to the side of his kitchen window where it pecked noisily for insects. In the yard there was a group of 7 AMERICAN ROBINS foraging on the lawn and Brian saw some get large worms from the grass and then they went back to the Mountain Ash tree to resume feeding on the few berries that were left (galloping gourmets-berries need a protein additive). A couple BLUE JAYS were also searching in the yard for lunch but were too far off to get a decent photo through the glass of the window.
