**Aldo
Dorio continues to enjoy photographing his Red Knot friends at Hay Island on
Monday. Gilles Belliveau commented earlier this species can be present now in
significant numbers but Aldo’s photos I think are the only the 2nd
photos of this species submitted to this venue this season.
Aldo also
photographed a wind tossed Red-breasted Merganser which will be with us all winter
when the Red Knots are overwintering far to the south of us.
**Bob Blake
maintains daily weather statistics from his 2nd North River home and
am attaching tabulated records as Bob forwards it comparing October, 2020 with
October, 2021.
Bob’s records
point out a slightly warmer October 2021 and significantly less precipitation.

** Jane and
Eddie LeBlanc just returned from Iceland. Jane comments all Iceland's power is renewable, mostly geothermal,
with some wind farms. Greenhouses operate year-round, using electric lights in
the winter months. You can see the excess steam being vented out of the pipe in
front in Jane’s photo. Vegetables are grown hydroponically. In this case,
tomatoes and cucumbers were being grown, and they ate them fresh in the
guesthouse they were staying in around the corner.
