** Phil Riebel and Pam Watters report Monday was an absolutely gorgeous day with the Miramichi Bay and River being flat calm - like a mirror! They went to Pointe Escuminac and some Red-throated Loons were relatively close to shore. Beautiful birds - and this isn't even their breeding plumage.
**Brian Stone noticed the birds finally beginning to strip his backyard Mountain Ash tree of its berries on Monday. A group of 30 plus EUROPEAN STARLINGS were foraging on his back lawn and several of those would occasionally pop up into the Mountain Ash tree and gulp down a few berries. About 10 AMERICAN ROBINS were in and out of the tree regularly and made a good dent in the berry numbers by the end of the day. Also joining them were 3 or 4 young CEDAR WAXWINGS. Brian expects the tree will be empty before long as has happened in previous years.
**Aldo Dorio continues to photograph waterfowl in the Tabusintac area seeing a male Hooded Merganser and a Northern Pintail on Monday.
**Its last call for anyone who would like bags of black-oil sunflower seed to place an order. Fred Richards spoke with farmer Mike Dickinson. The harvest was just completed and he expects to make delivery to a site to be announced in Moncton over the next few weeks. The cost is $17 for a 15 kg bag. Please place orders with Susan Richards by email at susan_richards@rogers.com or call Susan at 334-0100 leaving a message if indicated. This project is in support of a New Brunswick farmer and lowering a carbon footprint, not a fundraiser for Nature Moncton.
