** Ed and Jane LeBlanc took part in the St. Martins Christmas Bird Count on Dec. 14th...the first day of the count period. Ted Sears coordinated as usual. The find of the day went to Jim Wilson, who spotted a WINTER WREN in West Quaco.

Fewer species and numbers were expected this year, due to very strong winds, lack of snow cover and very, very strong winds!

**The very successful presentation on shorebirds by Diana Hamilton and Julie Paquet at the Nature Moncton meeting on Tuesday evening was recorded. The link is now available for those who may have missed this presentation to get a chance to see it using the link below:

** Brian Stone visited Cap Lumiere on Tuesday to look for interesting sea life in the extra strong winds. He was nearly knocked over at times by strong gusts. In the main wharf area, there was a male HARLEQUIN DUCK hanging out with a female LONG-TAILED DUCK almost seeming to be a couple.

Just outside the breakwater there were many GULLS almost hovering in the strong winds.

Also, several more male and female Long-tailed Ducks were swimming and diving in the same area. A female COMMON EIDER was also braving the waves and managed to pose for a slightly blurry photo.

(Editor’s note: the editor has made an attempt to put an age class on the single gull photos. Some I feel confident on, but others sure stand to be corrected. Comments/corrections would be very much appreciated so we all can learn. Immature gulls at this time of year can be challenging from photos when in some cases, certain features are not visible)
