** Jane LeBlanc had a
third sparrow species arrive at her St. Martins yard on Dec. 31st. Along with
the AMERICAN TREE and WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, a SONG SPARROW
was also present. All photos were taken through a window with a light drizzle
coming down, so they aren't as clear as she would have liked.
**Brian Stone went for an outing to Petit Cap and
along the coast there as far as Pointe-du-Chene On Friday. At Petit Cap Brian
was surprised to see the water was mirror calm and the light was strangely
grey. No birds were present, but the scenery was fascinating with an
almost invisible horizon.
At the
Petit Cap wharf some GULLS were around and a pair of male COMMON
EIDER DUCKS were seeming to hover in the reflective water.
While they were parked at Petit Cap beach a crow
landed beside the car and regurgitated a style of pellet. It looked like old
hard seeds or something similar. It was about an inch long.
