**Yolande
LeBlanc, with some careful sleuthing, was able to capture some photos of one of
at least two young-of-the-year Northern Cardinals in her Memramcook yard
under the guard of watchful parents. The young birds are quickly developing
plumage resembling their mother. The black bill quickly identifies them as
young-of-the-year. The black bill will take on the mature red colour in the
fall.
Yolande
is aware of two broods in the neighbourhood; hopefully, the adults will
have a second brood to build up a local cardinal community that will be a nidus
to build up a population in the local area which has been slow to come.
**Sterling
Marsh was able to capture a pleasant photo of a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird showing red on her throat that
is actually the evening sun shining through the feeder.
**It’s
that time of year when some fledglings that fledged earlier are starting molt
to take on more mature features. Nelson Poirier has a Red-winged Blackbird
that has become addicted to the peanut feeder and seems to be taking on
features of an immature male but retains features that could render it a female.
A few photos are attached.
