**It's always pleasant to have sparrow
species joining us at birdfeeders in the winter.
Wendy Sullivan was able to capture a
photo of a Song Sparrow and a White-throated Sparrow buddying up
at her Riverview feeder yard. These two species normally migrate south for the
winter. However, a small number do tend to stay with us visiting birdfeeders.
**In October, Nelson Poirier joined the Nature Miramichi group to spend a day with Brian Donovan visiting several trail camera sites that Brian maintains in a remote area of the Renous Highway.
Brian has been very successful in getting
footage of wildlife in that area that many of us rarely or never see. Brian
shared many videos of Fisher, Marten, Lynx, River Otter, Black Bear, Moose, White-tailed
Deer, Beaver, Muskrat, Coyote, and birds including owls, raptors, Canada Jay,
and more. These videos were shared in a special Nature News edition in October.
On that field trip day in October, Brian
erected some new Marten nest boxes. Brian recently visited all his trail camera
sites to check on recent activity. One site was very rewarding as it showed a Marten
exploring and scent marking one of the nest boxes erected that day. Take a look
at Brian’s video below showing a Marten appearing to claim the box:

“Birding Adventures
with Jaden Barney”
It’s always a pleasure to hear from young people who
have developed a passion for birding.
Jaden Barney, a high school student from Sackville, NB, is one such
birding enthusiast who was drawn into the world of birds at a young age. This past summer, Jaden was chosen as one of
only 6 students from across Canada to take part in the youth training program
at Long Point Bird Observatory in Ontario where he learned much about bird
research including migration monitoring and bird banding. Jaden will tell us about this experience and
share his overall love of birds and birding as well as some of his bird
photography.
A great subject and presenter to lead us into the
Christmas holidays!
All are welcome, Nature Moncton member or not.
