**Louise Nichols and Jason Gallant covered the Dorchester sector for the Memramcook Christmas Bird Count on Monday.  They had a good day overall with a variety of species including a Northern Cardinal, 2 Rough-legged Hawks, and 2 Northern Harriers.  But the biggest surprise of the day happened when a shorebird flew in front of them while they were driving on one of the marsh roads and it landed on the road in front of them.  When they looked closer, they discovered it was a Killdeer and that there was in fact a pair of them.  To their surprise, they weren't the only ones who saw these birds.  At the tally-up, they learned that Alain Clavette's birding group also saw 2 Killdeer which were presumably the same birds.  The first sighting occurred at 11:30. Louise and Jason saw them about 4 hours later at 3:30 further south up the marsh closer to Dorchester.  Louise attaches some photos.

**Lynda LeClerc’s daughter, Rachelle, found an injured Barn Owl on her morning walk with her dog. She was taking it to a bird rescue facility in the attached video below. Rachelle lives just outside of Santa Rosa, California.

The Barn Owl is not uncommon in western North America and the lower half of the US but would be a very rare visitor to New Brunswick. The Magnetic Hill Zoo maintains a colony that they have raised there who are content in their well-designed enclosure.

**Nelson Poirier has a Multiflora Rose bush near his birdfeeder setup. A female Northern Cardinal that has been regular for a month has found the small rosehips to her liking to add to her seed menu.
