**The Moncton Boat and Sportsman
show continues at the Moncton Coliseum today Saturday, and tomorrow Sunday
until 5 PM.
Thanks to the efforts of Fred and Sue
Richards, Nature Moncton has a booth at this event being tended by Nature
Moncton volunteer members.
** After an
unsuccessful attempt on Thursday, Louise Nichols saw the 2 Sandhill Cranes
on Friday afternoon in the field near the intersection of Hwy 16 and Parson's
Rd. In miserable snowy weather, the cranes fed in the snow-covered field
with about 200 Canada Geese. It was interesting to note how small the
geese looked compared to the cranes.
**John Inman reports that
the Fox Sparrow that overwintered with them was joined by
a second one on Thursday and the resident Song Sparrow was joined by 6
plus.
On her trip around the Harvey area, Shannon Inman noticed 2 Killdeer and another
she heard across the road but could not locate.
** Jane
LeBlanc spotted a male Red-winged Blackbird in her St. Martins yard on
Friday morning along with the Fox Sparrow and a Common Grackle as well as her regulars.
**A Nature
Moncton Committee has been working on a project to have a camera installed in
the Peregrine Falcon nest box on the summit of the Assumption Building
in Moncton.
There are a
lot of moving parts to this project, and many logistics have to be worked out with
different partners.
Fred Richards
went to the building summit on Friday to check on Wi-Fi availability.
** The
March News from the Monarch Joint Venture can be accessed by copying the bolded words above into your search engine. It contains a lot
of interesting information on the Monarch Butterfly and excellent photographs.
