**Fred Dube has captured a trail cam
photo of a Coyote visiting his front yard in Lower Coverdale at least 4
nights during the last week.
This is in the middle of the
subdivision, so this animal can be assumed to be an urban dweller, at least
part-time, considering a wooded area is nearby.
**Brian Stone
sends some photos from the Upham area and Hampton lagoon taken on Wednesday.
The ducks at the Hampton lagoon included 3 female Common Mergansers and
a Gadwall among the other more common ducks.
In Brian's
sister's feeder yard, a small group of male Evening Grosbeaks stopped
for snacks several times during the day, and a pair of Hairy Woodpeckers
and at least one Downy Woodpecker enjoyed the suet feeder.
Four American
Crows were hanging around the yard and left some nice tracks in the recent
snow in the driveway.
A Mourning Dove strolled by with
an unusually long tail that made for some second looks!
**Nelson Poirier had a Sharp-shinned
Hawk bolt into his feeder yard on Wednesday to miss its selected prey. In
apparent disgust, it chose to hide behind a branch and wait for a second
opportunity with a very patient hidden wait. The ploy was unsuccessful!
** Nature Moncton has 2 Ducks Unlimited Wood Duck boxes available
free of charge to anyone who can get them up and ready for patrons in the near
future. These nest boxes are also used by Hooded Merganser, Common Merganser,
and Common Goldeneye.
They are fully assembled and ready to
be bolted in place.
The boxes are in Moncton. If anyone
would like one or both, contact nelsonpoirier435@gmail.com
An in-town supply of new Nature Moncton nest boxes is also
available at the same source. These boxes are available free to members and $20
to non-members.
These boxes are taken mostly by Tree Swallows but also Eastern
Bluebirds, Black-capped Chickadees, and Flying Squirrels will use them.
