**This
coming Nature Moncton Wednesday walk (Aug 30) in Taylor Village is written up
at the end of this edition today and tomorrow and upfront on Wednesday.
** Gordon Rattray joined the Nature Moncton walk
on Wednesday to the Clancy forest near Havelock. Gordon, like all the
walkers, was very impressed with the scope of the trails and the great
diversity of life that was observed. Gordon took many photos on the walk
and shares some today.
-American Alumroot,
found by a drainage ditch
-Two views of a Butternut
-Net-winged Beetle
species
-Banded Tussock Moth
(suspected)
- Hornet nest in the ground suspected to be Eastern Yellowjackets
- White Baneberry
-A very large White
Birch
-Silverrod, a white goldenrod species
-English Oak tree
-White Ash leaves
**Jane
LeBlanc in St. Martins went looking for Monarch Butterfly caterpillars in her
milkweed patch and found 2 but was also thrilled to find 3 chrysalids.
Surprisingly, they were all about 6 feet up on the milkweed plants. Common
Milkweed must like this wet weather, as some of them are over 6 feet high.
Jane
invites Nature Moncton members to visit her milkweed patch/garden if they are
in the St. Martins area.
**There may
be a wave of Great Egrets to
New Brunswick.
Lynda LeClerc feels fairly certain she saw 3 Great Egrets on the right of Rte. 106 between Breau Creek and Dorchester Sunday on her way to Sackville. In fact, there may have been 4 in a marshy area with small pools of water. They returned to Moncton the same way, but I did not see a sign of them. Lynda apologizes she didn’t get photographic evidence.
**Aldo Dorio had an early morning visit from a White Admiral Butterfly to his Neguac yard to provide an open-wing photograph as it was no doubt interested in soaking up some early morning sunshine to fuel its day.
** This
coming Wednesday August 30, 2023, will be the final Nature Moncton Wednesday
Walk of the summer of 2023. The walks
have been very well attended this year, and Thank You to all who participated.
This week’s walk will start at 31 Rockland No.1
Road, Taylor Village, NB. E4K 2R1. This will be mostly a social outing. We will have some snacks, and then if we feel
up to it, we can go for a walk. This
event will start at 6:00, but if you arrive late (before 7:00 please), it will
be OK. This is more of a snack and
mingle, but there is always lots to see.
We will be holding this come rain or shine. Contact number is 506-334-0100,
and please call if you need help with directions, as many GPS products do not
believe that the Rockland Bridge went out in 1978 and will try to get you here
from the Dorchester side of the river. Hope
to see you here.
Fred Richards has attached a map from Dieppe
to 31 Rockland No.1 Road for your convenience.
