** Jane LeBlanc's Northern Cardinal stayed overnight and was seen several times on Friday. Photos were taken but none good enough to share. Walking her dog in the warm afternoon, Jane came across a Yellow-spotted Salamander at the end of her driveway. She managed to get some photos while keeping the dog from getting too inquisitive.
Wayne points out this is a sucking bug of the family Coreidae or the Leaf-footed bugs noting the flat expanded segment in the hind leg that gives the group its name.
(Editor’s note: this is a bug native to Western North America that has expanded its range eastward to include New Brunswick. It is more apt to be seen this time of year seeking out protected places to overwinter, such as in human dwellings.)
Above the Harvey Dam, a young male Common Eider was photographed, as well as a Common Loon that appeared to be either juvenile or in adult winter plumage.
Anna also photographed one of our stink bug species, showing its characteristic shape.
