**The winter bird scene is getting underway.
Barb Curlew
saw a flock of 6 SNOW BUNTINGS on Waterside Beach on October 31, 2023.
Two of them landed close by and gave her the opportunity to photograph them.
(Editor’s
note: note the fall arrivals are dull compared to the showy black and white
birds that leave us in the spring to head north.)
**John Inman got a quick distant photo
of an adult BALD EAGLE with apparent nest material. John comments that they see it off and on
but it's never camera-ready as this time.
**Aldo Dorio continues to see
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS at Hay Island at the end of October. Four of them were
present at Hay Island on Monday.
**Bob Blake in Second North River maintains daily weather statistics from his home, recording daily temperatures, daily high temperatures, and monthly precipitation. Bob shares it in table form comparing October 2022 with October 2023. The table is below as Bob reports it.
It is interesting to note the
reported statistics were quite similar for the two months except for the
precipitation when the last day of October 2023 gave us our first seasonal
snowfall, which is expected soon to be a memory!
