**Ray Gauvin’s pair of Northern Cardinals continue their daily ritual back and forth from their home in the Mugo Pine and Holly bush to the side view mirror or roof on his black vehicle, male-only, then to their living room window, where they perch on a branch of the Kiwi plant hanging in the window and peck at the window. Generally, when the male shows up pecking, the female is there as well. It is the male who does most of the pecking. On occasion, the female will peck. As for perching on the vehicle, Ray has yet to see the female doing that.
(Editor’s comment: The Northern Cardinal and American Robin are two bird species that often try to attack their reflection in mirrors and windows to ward off perceived intruders on their territory.)

(Editor’s note: what unusual spring weather! The Common Grackles and Red-winged Blackbirds have arrived in numbers but the onslaught of American Robins that usually arrive with them has not. There are lots of open unfrozen fields waiting.
The cool  rains also seem to be keeping naturalists' cameras very quiet but suspect that is about to abruptly change.)

**There has been a fresh supply of nest boxes arrive to the yard of 85 Mount Royal Blvd. in Moncton from the workshop of Fred Richards. They are waiting to go to new homes. Drop by and pick them up anytime with no need to check in.
