**Barb Curlew and Rick Elliott have had a family of Ruffed Grouse around their yard since late Fall. It's entertaining to see one of them
balancing in a tree outside the kitchen window.
**On Sunday morning at low tide,
Norbert Dupuis saw a lot of gulls flying near the causeway in Memramcook. There
was also a Bald Eagle standing by on a tree and two immature Bald Eagles flying
over. Norbert got a photo of an Iceland Gull with a good-sized fish as rewarding prey in
its bill that looked like it may be an Atlantic Tomcod which would be
spawning at this time of year.
Norbert’s resident Pine Warbler
and Northern Cardinal are still regular patrons of his home feeder yard.
(Editor’s note: there is a good
possibility the gulls were interested in preying upon Atlantic Tomcod that were
probably numerous as they spawn and more concentrated and available at low
tide. The eagles would also enjoy the fish as well is a bit of fresh gull.)
**Brian
Donovan from Miramichi has a set of trail cameras set up in the hinterland off
the remote Renous Highway that he has been checking every three weeks for several
years and has been able to make some incredible observations of wildlife in
their natural element that we seldom get the chance to see.
Brian shares a link below to a
collection of his trail camera observations that have received the most
attention. This video is 7.5 minutes long. If you don’t have the time to watch
it at the moment, scroll back to this edition and watch it later. It contains
amazing footage of animals/birds such as Fisher, Marten, River Otter, Lynx,
Racoon, Black Bear, Moose, and a Barred Owl.
(Editor’s note: don’t miss the River Otter
“poop dance”!)
