**The Biota New Brunswick open house was held Saturday near Kouchibouguac, showcasing the efforts of scientists and what they had found over 10 days of combing the Black River Protected Natural Area, documenting everything they saw. The diversity was amazing to see: plants, insects, reptiles, fish, amphibians, and lots more all in one room. This biota effort is done each year in a selected protected natural area and is recognized as one of the most comprehensive biota efforts in Canada.

The table of slime molds found captured the interest of many; see the beauty and intricacy of these tiny creatures that are so common yet often unnoticed.

Maureen Girvan captured a photo of one of them, the pretzel slime mold. Nelson Poirier photographed a lighter moment with a mounted grey squirrel keeping watch over the collections.

**The moisture level has created a banner year for mushroom emergence. The mushroom table at the NB Biota was impressive.

Shannon Inman photographed rose spindle mushrooms and white spindle mushrooms in Harvey as well as the scarlet waxycap.

**The pelagic adventure on August 15 proved to be an excellent time to compare the Atlantic white-sided dolphin and the common dolphin.

Phil Riebel captured excellent photographs and prepared a commentary to help identify the two species easily, using the photos. Phil’s documentary and photographs are at the link below and will serve as a great future reference.
