**Both Bob Blake and Ron Stiles each have reported four northern flickers enjoying ants on their home lawns. It almost seems traditional that northern flickers seek out ants on well-groomed lawns this time of year.

**Ron Steeves reports there was an injured northern gannet in the lumber yard of the Home Hardware store in Salisbury Wednesday morning. He wonders what weather conditions brought that species so far inland. It was an adult bird. Ron comments that he has a good yard list over the years but not a northern gannet. This one was close!

(Editor’s note: this would be one of the pelagic species that, if grounded for whatever reason, might have difficulty taking flight. Capturing this bird with a net or blanket and tossing it off a bridge into the river may well be enough to get it reoriented into the air, depending on the injury.)

****It surely is a year for observing unusual mushrooms. Brian Coyle came across the mushroom pictured below, and we can't identify it. It was jellylike in texture. Any comments?
