**There is lots to see
when we look up into the sky after dark, which will happen sooner, in a
few days. But Daryl Doucet gives the incentive to look up a bit more during the
day and appreciate the beautiful cloud formations that can develop.
Darrell noted a
particularly striking cloudscape from St. George Street in Moncton on
Wednesday afternoon.
**Brian and Annette Stone
got some exercise walking trails in Irishtown Park on Wednesday while the air
was cool but the Sun was bright. Brian photographed a pair of double-crested
cormorants fishing in the reservoir, and he noticed one of them had an
apparent injury to the back of its head. Some ring-billed gulls circled
the cormorants, likely intending to steal any meals the cormorants caught.
Brian also photographed the floating island installed near the causeway
across the reservoir, which is a project of the Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance.
Bird life was quiet and rarely seen in the
park, but they caught glimpses of a hairy woodpecker, some blue jays, black-capped
chickadees, and a few red-breasted nuthatches.
**This next item is not
specifically naturalist-oriented, but an extremely interesting scenario in the
history of “airmail” in the Shediac area, submitted courtesy of Ray Gauvin.
