** Louise Nichols visited her assigned site at Ann's acres near Tormentine
for the start of the fall shorebird survey on Tuesday. There were 50+
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS present on the beach along with a good number of LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, fewer GREATER YELLOWLEGS and one lone SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER. There
were several WILLETS with four juveniles. Louise heard a number of NELSON'S
SPARROWS singing and was able to get excellent photos of one.
** Marguerite Winsor shares a photo of a beautiful wild plant CANADA LILY.
This plant can sometimes grow surprisingly high with many striking blooms.
Marguerite noted it roadside in the Lower Jemseg area last Friday.
** It's been interesting to see the RED ADMIRAL butterfly adults emerging
from the nine chrysalises Rheal Vinneau shared with me last week. I have not
been able to witness one in progress, they just seem to appear. The emergence
must be fairly quick. I have seen them sending fluid to the wings to stiffen up
but they soon are ready to fly off in their mission outside. Some photos are
attached.
