** There’s a NORTHERN CARDINAL [Cardinal rouge] in the Bouctouche area. Stella Leblanc spotted a female NORTHERN CARDINAL that made a brief visit to her feeder yard on Tuesday morning.

** Jean Renton is at their Canaan Forks camp at the moment enjoying lots of birds to feeders including RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES [Sittelle à poitrine rousse], GRAY JAYS [Mésangeai du Canada, 4 TURKEYS and a FLYING SQUIRREL coming at night to peanut butter. Jean’s husband  watched a scenario which certainly surprised him as he was hunting from his tree stand, a FISHER came along, knocked down a pole that he had set up with apples, scooted into the brush briefly, then back for an apple.

** Pat spotted a bird in our urban yard. I suggested it was probably a SPARROW. It surely was not as an OVENBIRD [Paruline couronnée) came into view. It stayed around the yard all day moving in and out of the bird feeder enclosure. I assume it may have been attracted by the grouping of other birds and probably foraging on ground insects around some of the ground bird food. It was hard to photograph as very skulky, tending to stay in the shadows but a few photos show the orange on the head, eye ring and pinkish legs. Also a pair of NORTHERN FLICKERS [Pic flamboyant] visited the feeders on Wednesday.
