**The SUMMER TANAGER [Piranga vermillon] seems to have moved from
19 Jolicure Road. Andrew Macfarlane said the last time he saw it in his yard was
Thursday. It’s probably not that far away.
**Brian Stone got an excellent side view photo of an immature
RED-TAILED HAWK [Buse à queue rousse] on Friday in the Tantramar area. Anne
Marsch, Brian and Annette Stone visited the Tantramar area on Friday and I
suspect more pictures will be available for tomorrow’s edition.
**Doreen Rossiter had a female NORTHERN CARDINAL [Cardinal rouge]
come by her Alma feeder yard on Friday. The male Northern Cardinal that came by
on October 23rd
stayed two days only. Doreen is noting GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET [Roitelet à
couronne dorée] and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS [Roitelet à couronne rubis] moving
through her yard the last few weeks. Doreen comments that being near the water,
her neighbourhood is often a few degrees warmer than inland this time of year.
On Friday she noted OX-EYE DAISIES [Marguerite], DANDELIONS [Leontodon
d'automne], SPEEDWELL [Véronique], and CREEPING BUTTERCUP [Bassinet] in
bloom.
**Anna Tucker visited the Sackville Waterfowl Park on Thursday.
The AMERICAN COOT [Foulque d'Amérique] was present and showed itself nicely for
a photo. Anna also got a photo of the GADWALLS [Canard chapeau] present and a
photo from below of the water control gate, an area that we don’t often tend to
look at from that angle.
**Claire Estabrooks, who was at the recent Bird Feeder Workshop,
mentioned a bird feeder she has been using for ten years that seems to keep the
RED SQUIRRELS [Écureuil roux] from the other feeders. It was built after a photo
she saw from North Carolina. She points out the bungee cord attachment seems to
keep the RACCOONS [Raton laveur] away from it. She comments that BLACK-CAPPED
CHICKADEES [Mésange à tête noire] go in and out of it a lot, but the occasional
FINCHES [Fringillidés] do need to be rescued. She also comments that CHIPMUNKS
[Suisse] are enamoured with it during the summer. Claire’s photo of her
ten-year-old feeder is attached.
**Aldo Dorio got another photo of the SEMIPALMATED PLOVER [Pluvier
semipalmé] that he has noted lingering at Hay Island Nature Park. The photo this
time shows a severely damaged left leg. It’s difficult to say whether this is
what is holding it there, as assumedly flight capabilities are OK, unless there
was some damage other than just the leg. Aldo also got a photo of a RUFFED
GROUSE [Gélinotte huppée] on the alert.
**There’s a lot of things scheduled at the Moncton Public Library
that may interest some Nature Moncton members, so I’m adding a PDF that outlines
some programs on there for general interest.
