** Bob & Shirley Childs have had a Warbler making brief
but regular morning visits to suet in their Riverview yard. It’s been appearing
for a few weeks now; they did get some documentary cell phone photos which
proved very hard to get, the photos are not definitive but an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER [Paruline verdâtre] is on the suspect
list. Anyone with suet feeders in the Riverview area should watch closely for a
possible visit from this warbler. Photo efforts will continue for
verification.
** We occasionally have RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS [Carouge à épaulettes] visiting feeder
yards in NB in winter - it’s usually males, however, Marg Fanjoy had a female
Red-Winged Blackbird drop by her Shediac Rd. feeder yard on Sunday.
** Georges Brun’s BROWN CREEPER [Grimpereau brun] now is getting more regular
visiting his Churchill St Moncton urban forest and Georges was able to get
photos of it busy at its work of foraging tree bark and furrows.
** As recently reported there has been an
adult RED-TAILED HAWK [Buse à queue rousse] using the
undeveloped area where the former CN shops were between Millennium Blvd. and
Collishaw St. I spotted it on Monday and it cooperated for some photos to show
its very bright rust-red tail, the characteristic belly band on a white chest
and breast, along with the “back pack” markings of pale mottling of scapular
feathers on its back. It had 3 AMERICAN CROWS [Corneille
d’Amérique] watching it most of the time, and occasionally dropping down
to harass it, which it didn’t seem to be particularly concerned
about.
