** Stella LeBlanc and Maria Allain found a special bird on
the Bouctouche Christmas Bird Count on Sunday - a TUFTED
TITMOUSE [Mésange bicolore] at an active feeder yard at 67 rue Desroches
in Bouctouche. The homeowners said the bird has been coming regularly since
September. Birders are welcome to drop by for an audience. The feeders are in
the backyard and accessed by going behind the house from the right side and
watching the feeders through a wooden fence. It’s very special to see this
Tufted Titmouse moving deeper into New Brunswick, appearing to gradually expand
its range in the province. I had a report from that area last winter but as we
were not able to establish identify with certainty, it was not reported. That
report was between Bouctouche and Rexton, which now makes one wonder if maybe
there are more in the area going undetected.
** The ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER [Paruline verdâtre] recently identified
as a patron at the suet feeder at Bob and Shirley Child’s in Riverview continues
to be a patron between the Childs and the suet feeder of Cathie Smith on Court
St in Riverview which is just down the street from the Childs. The
Orange-Crowned Warbler is a very hardy little warbler and could well continue a
winter visit to these nearby reliable feeder sites.
