**Jeanette Petrie
recently got a nice photo of a bird’s nest still intact from the
summer. The pendulant nest in the crotch of a branch suggests one of our
VIREO [Viréo] species was the creator of the intricately-woven
nest.
**Peter Gadd has been paying regular visits for the past six weeks
to the Tabusintac area to help survey Nature Conservancy of Canada properties
for waterfowl. On Friday, November 24th, he noticed six DUNLIN [Bécasseau
variable] on the beach at the end of Bayshore Road in Brantville. Also, there
are still several hundred CANADA GEESE [Bernache du Canada] in the Tabusintac
estuary area inside the barrier islands, apparently feeding on EEL-GRASS [Herbe
à bernaches].
**Aldo Dorio spotted four BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS [Jaseur boréal]
foraging on WINTERBERRY HOLLY [Houx verticillé] berries a few days ago at Hay
Island. On Friday he noted an AMERICAN ROBIN [Merle d'Amérique] doing the
same.
**The Nature Moncton SWALLOW [Hirondelle] box project is well
underway in Fred Richards’ workshop. If you want to reserve some nest boxes,
advise Louise Nichols via email at nicholsl@eastlink.ca
There are 15 left to be allotted to potential landlords. These
nest boxes are free to participants, as a grant from Imperial Oil that was
received on behalf of Louise Richard is being earmarked for this
project.
