** Always a treat to have GRAY JAYS [Mésangeai du Canada]
as yard birds. Aldo Dorio has two that are coming to his Neguac feeder
yard.
** Cold and snowfall must be bringing birds to feeder
yards but still no reports. Our urban feeder yard is fairly busy with the
regularly expected birds. Three young of the year RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS
[Carouge à épaulettes] are really hanging in. We are very much hoping a male
NORTHERN CARDINAL [Cardinal rouge] that is just a few streets away will check us
out since we have everything available that any Cardinal would want!
** At a visit to the Nature Sussex meeting on Monday night I heard comments
that a significant number of NORTHERN CARDINALS [Cardinal rouge] are coming to
feeders in the Sussex area, so they do seem to be getting closer to Moncton.
Gart Bishop gave a great presentation on the unique community of the Grand Lake
Meadows protected area, a special part of New Brunswick. It is the yearly
flooding of this area that provides the wildlife community of specialists
adapted to this habitat with its lush growth, but not a conifer tree to be
encountered anywhere in the 12,000 acres.
