**Jean Paul and Stella Leblanc came
across a decayed tree very worked at, in an apparent attempt of some critter to
extract beetles from the dead wood. The
size of the slivers of wood do suggest a PILEATED WOODPECKER [Grand pic] as this tree remnant does look quite
punky and likely very friable. They
wondered about a Black Bear as a rule-out but suspect the scene would be much
more demolished if it were a Black Bear.
They came across this scene on the trail at the back corner of the
parking lot at the Bouctouche Eco Centre.
**Yolande Leblanc noted a larger than
usual group of gulls in the Memramcook Marsh hayfield in front of her home on
Sunday at high tide. The tide would not
be as high as a New Moon tide but it is Full Moon tide time and the hayfield
was partially flooded. This is an
opportunity for gulls to take advantage of small fish that get up with the
higher water and of course the possibility of moles and shrews that could be
flooded out of their tunnel temporarily.
