** John Inman had some very pleasant new visitors to his Harvey, Albert County feeder yard on Halloween day. A dozen plus Evening Grosbeaks made their debut as well as 3 and possibly 4 Palm Warblers. A Dickcissel rounded up a good day and returned several times over the day.

John also got a distant photo of a male Bufflehead they spotted in the Bay behind his home.

A Downy Woodpecker was also busily excavating a cavity and a branch in his yard. One would have to wonder at this time of year if it may be thinking of a warm protected night roost.

**Annegret Lamurre was at the most eastern tip of PEI looking toward Cape Breton Island when she took a picture of a cloudscape that looked like the fins of sharks sailing by.

On consult with Curt Nason, he was able to find some information on this phenomenon. He pointed out this is caused by wind shear due to differences in density between adjacent cloud layers and some interesting information is available at the link below:

**Kelly-Sue O’Connor is doing a very unique project which she would like to share with the group that monitors Nature News.  I am quoting Kelly-Sue below so interested folk can read about her project and contact her directly if they wish.

Quoting Kelly-Sue:

“I have a project called Birder Brain where I speak with/film/interview people about birding and mental health/physical health and its benefits. I also share tips on mindful birding and other similar subjects.

I am planning on coming home for a few weeks in November from Ontario and will be visiting NS, PEI and NB (so all welcome to contact me) and am looking for any birders that would be interested in being filmed for a short documentary to be shared online about how birding has helped or helps you. Filming takes about 3 hours.  The episodes so far have ended up being from 5-8 minutes long.  It's low key and relaxed and will have a voiceover with your story.

Here is a link to the website: www.birderbraindoc.com and here are a couple of links to interviews I’ve done recently about the project:

https://naturenotesblog.blogspot.com/2022/09/lets-talk-birding-mental-health.html

So far, there are a few blog interviews up and 3 short films you can look at. (If you prefer not to film, written interviews can happen as well and don't have to be during my visit).  Here is one I think may interest most in the Maritimes as the subject, Bob Bell, suffers from Lyme Disease: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FACFRtaKKPE&t=13s

A bit about me: I have been a birder for over 15 years.  I am on the board of the Toronto Ornithological Club, and I am a Vortex Ambassador.  I have also been a part of Bird Friendly Cities. My story is on the website if you want to find out more about my background and why I came to start this project”.

**There is a large shrub of Multiflora Rose at the north the end of the bridge crossing Jones Lake on Milner Road. It is located at the back of the parking lot of the former Atlantic Lotto location. It is loaded with hundreds of rosehips which are favoured by bird fruit conservators. Multiflora Rose is considered an invasive plant but appears to be behaving itself at this location and may be a good spot to keep an eye on this coming winter as the rosehips cling for the winter.
