** Last call for the Pond Life workshop on for tomorrow afternoon,
Saturday. The write-up is attached. Don't let any rain deter you. We are
going to ponds but a larger portion of the workshop is inside. A great chance
to see what's under all those pond water surfaces that play such an important
part in Mother Nature's community.
** Anna Tucker spotted and got photos of an eaglet in the Crawley Farm BALD
EAGLE [Pygargue à tête blanche] nest on May 11th, Wednesday. As it was the
first report, I'm assuming the hatch was very recent. Anna also got a photo of
the YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS [Paruline à croupion jaune] that are having an influx
in the Hillsborough area.
** A partial albino WHITE-THROATED SPARROW [Bruant à gorge blanche] paid a
visit to the yard of Marguerite Winsor in Salisbury on Wednesday. Lots of white
on the head of this bird. As mentioned before, partial albinos are always
special as they come as one unique edition with no other copies created.
** Clarence Cormier reports the last AMERICAN TREE SPARROW [Bruant
hudsonien] he has seen was on May 11th. He still has a near complete array of
sparrows, including two WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS [Bruant à couronne blanche], a
few RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS [Roitelet à couronne rubis], 2 to 4 WILSON'S SNIPE
[Bécassine de Wilson], one lone female EVENING GROSBEAK [Gros-bec errant] and
one GRAY CATBIRD [Moqueur chat].
** Brian Stone followed up Anna Tucker's visit to the Crawley Farm Rd. BALD
EAGLE [Pygargue à tête blanche] nest to welcome the new eaglet to get some great
action of a busy nest site. The eaglet does seem very strong and robust,
working its wings already and voicing its opinions in some of Brian's photos.
Take close note of the two pictures that have the butt end of the eaglet over
the edge of the nest, followed by a squirt of waste elimination. A great way to
keep the nest clean. Brian reports that the squirt missed him and his camera
but checking Brian over very closely could be interesting. Some crows came in
for a bit of harassment. Note the white tails of the adults are Petitcodiac
River mud in colour. I suspect we know where they have been hunting.
