Nature Moncton Nature News: Aug 11 2016

** Louise Nichols visited the White Birch Ducks Unlimited Impoundment near Sackville on Wednesday to find a new visitor there ... a GREAT EGRET [Grande Aigrette] in the center of the impoundment off the dyke road. She did see one juvenile BLACK TERN [Guifette noire] fly in and land on the mud flat as well. An EBONY JEWELWING DAMSELFLY stayed still for a photo, and a small GREEN FROG [Grenouille verte] , under two inches in length, was captured in a photo.

** Jamie Burris captured some great photos of those very difficult to photograph RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS [Colibri à gorge rubis] to show some adult males and some females or juvenile birds. It will not be long before the adult males will leave us to migrate with the females. The juveniles will stay usually until the first week of September.

** Aldo Dorio got a photo of a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER [Pluvier argenté] on Wednesday. It will soon be easy to confuse the less common American Golden Plover with the more common Black-bellied Plover. The obvious white undertail covert area in this photo gives it away quickly as a Black-bellied Plover. Aldo also photographed some RUDDY TURNSTONES [Tournepierre à collier].

** Roger Burrows has carefully reviewed the warbler image sent out yesterday as a possible Cape May Warbler and suggests that it appears to him to be a juvenile Yellow-rumped Warbler, judging by the yellowish wash on the side and the yellow on the forehead. Roger points out that a young Cape May Warbler would have smudgier markings on the breast, and more grey on the head.
