**Ted
Currie had
what I expect is a very unusual observation recently behind his Ammon Road home,
when he spotted a completely white PORCUPINE [Porc-épic]. Although a flash was
used in the photo that shows the eye, Ted said he did note the eye and the snout
were indeed pink, which would make it a true albino animal, not a partial
albino. This would make it a rare occurrence. Ted also comments that white fur
on the back completely concealed the quills. He got three photos, that are
attached.
**Doreen
Rossiter has had her third visit from a female CARDINAL [Cardinal] this fall.
The first two visitors stayed only one day. This bird was in its
second
day present on Friday, and Doreen feels it’s a different bird from the first
visitors, as she’s
noting a small white spot in each wing that she did not see with the last
visitors. A few years ago Doreen had a female NORTHERN CARDINAL [Cardinal rouge]
stay all winter, so she’s hoping this latter arrival will follow
suit.
**Pat
Muirhead in Anagance
was able to get a photo out her window of her swelling flock of EVENING
GROSBEAKS [Gros-bec errant]. It appears there are 25+ at this point.
**As
a heads-up
to mark on the calendar, the film Every
Living Thing – experiencing a bioblitz
will be shown on Wednesday night, November 23rd
at 7 p.m. at the Aberdeen
Cultural Centre,
140 Botsford Street in Moncton. This film features the New Brunswick Museum in
the Grand
Lake Protected Natural Area
in 2013-2014. This film has received some excellent reviews and will be of
interest to naturalists, seeing how a bioblitz is conducted and all the
information learned from a bioblitz. Another reminder will be put out next
week.
**Also
as a heads-up, Nature Moncton will be holding a workshop on Sunday afternoon,
November 27th
on
bird feeding, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Tankville School, 1665 Elmwood Drive.
There will be no registration ahead for this workshop; just come along with
ideas to share and get some new ideas to incorporate into your winter feeding
yard. The write-up is attached, and will be repeated next week.
