** Shawn Cormier again got some excellent photos of the pair of WOOD DUCKS that seem to be becoming quite comfortable overwintering at the creek through Mapleton Park. They now seem quite accustomed to the activity there, possibly noting the behaviour of the numerous MALLARDS. Shawn got a nice photo of the pair together as well as the male performing a bit.

**Louise Nichols was able to get some great photos of that elusive winter SANDPIPER visitor to NB, the PURPLE SANDPIPER on December 31 on THE  Johnson’s Mills shoreline.  One surely has to be in the right place at the right time to see purple sandpipers in winter in NB. Louise appreciated the very capable help of Alain Clavette and Jason Gallant to get this bird on her life list.
The purple sandpiper breeds to the north of us but a portion of the population spend their winters in NB.  None of them migrate much farther south.

**Bill and Carolyn Harris share a Christmas Day treat they had with BALD EAGLES.  They live on the bottom of BUNKER Hill in Upper Coverdale with an unobstructed view of the fields and marshlands across the Coverdale Rd.  On Christmas Day they counted 14 BALD EAGLES and 2 of what they suspected to be ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS and another smaller hawk. At one point 9 of the eagles were on the ground in a circle almost looking like they were having Christmas dinner.

**Marlene Hickman is pleased that a WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH and a NORTHERN HARRIER both have become regulars to suet in her Dorchester feeder yard for the past week now.

**Brian Stone was again able to capture Venus and the crescent moon on Sunday night at 5:40pm as the 2 grew closer together. Tonight the moon will be passed Venus and approaching Mars.

**Anna Tucker also got a nice photo of the crescent moon on New Year's Eve to nicely show the illuminated area and the non illuminated area.
